Can't remember Shaw's General Store - where was it?
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Presidents Message:

It was good to receive the news from our Premier Mr. Dan Andrews that the lockdown would end at 11.59pm on Thursday 21st October. I am sure Rotary members are looking forward to having family members visit them in their homes. I look forward to further restrictions being lifted in about 10 days time. Hopefully the lifting of these restrictions will allow us to return to the ISCW to conduct our meetings.

I am pleased to announce that the Board has approved a proposal by PP Lyn Fava to commence planning for a Busy Feet Program to be run at St Josephs By the Sea in Williamstown. It is hoped that this program will commence in Term 1 February 2022. Regular reports will be provided to the club on the programs progress. Congratulations Lyn.

Our Christmas function will be held on Tuesday the 14th December at a venue and cost to be advised.

At tonight’s meeting we had Peter Karuramu (Secretary and PE), Cathie Tuhaise (President) and Esau Muhumuza (PAG) from the Rotary Club of Hoima Kiara in Uganda attend as our special guests. Peter gave a short presentation to our club.

Our guest speaker this week was: Elaine Robb CEO Encompass Community Services who gave an inspiring presentation.

October is Economic and Community Development Month

Rotary Walk with Us to End Polio

The Rotary Walk With Us campaign throughout October is a fun way to raise awareness and funds to End Polio Now.

The findings of the 2020 Rotary All – Members Survey is very interesting reading

Please continue to keep in touch with members who do not attend our zoom meetings to make sure they are alright. It is also very important to check in on family members as well.

Next week’s guest speaker is still to be advised. Our Program Chair Brian is doing a wonderful job organising speakers, but some speakers won't do Zoom, and want to address the club personally, requiring a lot of late changes.

I will close with a thought for the week: One moment can change a day, one day can change a life and one life can change the world

Graham

NEXT WEEK -

Tuesday 26th October on Zoom

Our Program Chair is 'moving the blocks' to organise a speaker for next week, as our proposed speaker does not want to do Zoom. We will notify ASAP.

We are getting closed to returning to ISCW for our meetings, with the 70% relaxation of rules commencing from Friday 22.10.2021.

We got an email from ISCW dated 20.10.2021, advising that they won't be opening on Friday 22.10.2021, as the numbers allowed are not viable for the club to make a dollar.

The next easing of restrictions is when we reach 80%, which is expected to be around Friday 29.10.2021, and ISCW intend to open on this date, when greater numbers are allowed indoors. As we don't meet on Melbourne Cup night, hopefully Bingo will be back on Monday 8/11 & our club meeting on Tuesday 9/11 - fingers crossed?

ISCW have advised that:

*IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING VACCINATION STATUS FOR ALL PATRONS*

In line with government advice, the ISCW will only be permitted to reopen to fully vaccinated patrons and all staff will also be fully vaccinated. All patrons will be required to sign in via the Victorian Government QR code and proof of vaccination will be required upon entry to our venue. For anyone who is exempt from receiving the vaccine, proof of this will also be required to enter our venue. There will be no exceptions to the above rule. Now more than ever, we thank you for your support at this time and we appreciate your co-operation and patience.

ALPHABET RACING

As they go past the post for the first time, The Egg Man has sprinted to the front in the big race and leads by five lengths. Look at him go! He is firing on all four fetlocks at the moment with the promise of more good things to come in future races. His impressive speed has taken all by surprise, especially the previous leader Mad Dog Muir who seems to be running up and down on the one spot.

The Egg Man shared the $15 prize at Caulfield with Sticky Micki who also had a good run at Randwick. She decided to go three wide around the field and now nestles into 6th spot on her own. But can she sustain it? She now heads into that black hole vortex of the letters U to Z. She will need to get lucky.

At Randwick, the mighty stallion Jumbo Jimbo won the $15 prize with a powerful 12-point haul that now sees him in 5th place. But he's looking for more improvement. He's only one length behind the dogged and determined dam, Demon Ann, with the surprise packet, Rob the Boxer, who is punching above his weight, one length ahead in third place.

And now we get to see Two Metre PeterRandall's Candles and Anne of Green Grasses strut their stuff as they finally decide to leave the barrier. They all had impressive runs which have put them back in the hunt for the cup.

But poor old Rudolph Ballantino can't take a trick at the moment and is still standing in his stall. He's looking as forlorn as a rusty Holden ute. He just needs to keep his head up in the hope that the letters will fall his way very soon..

Tip of the Week
Spiders hate peppermint. Add a tablespoon of Peppermint Oil to a 500ml squirt bottle, and spray your garage, shed, pergola etc, around all the door frames etc, then watch the spiders disappear.
