PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

President's Message

On Monday night I attended the monthly meeting of the Werribee CFA and presented them with a cheque for $2,000 which will go towards purchasing some new rescue equipment.

On Saturday Myself, Ross Smith, Brian Ahmed and Peter Sandlant attended the Werribee Football Club Luncheon as a prelude to the Beyond Blue Cup which was played between Werribee Districts Football Club and Hoppers Crossing Football Club. The match was played in good spirits with victory going to Werribee Districts Football Club.

Last night Peter Sandlant and I attended the 2nd session on the Mental Health 1st aid course conducted by Todd and Mel from Outside the Locker Room. Tonight’s session was on Leadership and Goals.

At Monday’s bingo we had 86 in attendance and a profit of $1016 was raised. Thank you, Ross Conley and Phil Purdy, for helping on the night. Graham Roper and Kim Deneys are rostered for next Monday Night (27/6).

Last Thursdays Bunnings BBQ raised $595.75. A big thank you to all who donated their time on the day with a special thanks to Roly Wade for picking up all the required equipment and returning it to Brian Ahmed afterword’s. Our next Bunnings BBQ is on Thursday

Next Tuesday’s Guest Speaker: Peter Morris – Passing the Baton.

Thanks, Kim, for filling in for me at this week’s meeting.

I will close with a thought for the week: There was never a night or a problem that could defeat sunrise or hope.

THIS WEEK AT ROTARY - 21 06.2022

Our guest speaker this week on Zoom was Adjunct Professor Phil Dolan. Phil teaches part time at LaTrobe University. He is an experienced finance executive, who lectures on Creative Thinking, the topic for our Rotary talk.

Phil believes that there are three elements to address when being confronted with a problem.
  1. Identify the problem
  2. Question the coverted wisdom
  3. Ask the question "why" and drill down at least 5 levels.

NEXT WEEK

Tuesday 28th June

Next weeks guest speaker is coming from the other side of town. It will be an embarrasement to the club (again) to have 7 or 8 people in attendance. If you can't come,  please let Pres Graham know by Monday morning. If we are only going to get 7-8 members, then we will cancel the speaker, and avoid the embarrassment.

Footy Tipping - after 14 Rounds

This week Ross S & Liz Ross managed 5 out of 6.

Ann S, Poppy, Brian & Phil got four, and the resy got 3 or less.

Brian 'the egg man' won the $10 being spot on the margin.

The leaders after 14 rounds are:

84 points - Tiger.

83 points - Ross C & Poppy Daddy.

81 points - Floreat Pica & Ann S.

Round 15 is looking like a tough round, so there won't be any bonus points. The top 8 teams play one another, 9 & 10 also play one another.

Passing the Baton
Passing the Baton

Peter began his career as a journalist. He gained experience in radio and TV, specialising in IT, telecommunications and the broadcasting industry. In 1998 he founded Telesis Consulting which advised on the impact of technology on industries and regions. for a variety of public sector clients.

Peter is co-founder of “Passing the Baton” a social enterprise supporting the transition of Baby Boomer business owners to the next generation of owners. “Passing The Baton” is the culmination of his experience in various professional roles during his career. The unnecessary and avoidable termination of Baby Boomer businesses is, he believes, an issue of profound importance for the economic and community life of towns across the country.
