PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Presidents Message:

This week it was my pleasure to Induct Andi Barnfield as a member of our Rotary Club. Andi is an office manager of a boutique Accounting Firm located in South Yarra. Her interests are camping, Gardening and DIY – Creations. A more formal introduction to our members will be held once we can return to face to face meetings.

Unfortunately our guest speaker Councilor Sahana Ramesh  was not able to be with us. Ian Hovey again saved the day by showing a video on Rotary followed by a Ted Talk.

SEPTEMBER IS EDUCATION MONTH

From the Board

At Wednesday’s Board Meeting it was decided to join in partnership with the Hoima Kitara Rotary Club in Uganda to undertake a Wash (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Rotary Project in Hoima. The project involves providing menstrual kits to school girls. The Werribee Rotary Club has donated $1,000 to finance the program.

PP Michael Redding has been advised that PDG Phillip Archer would like to meet with the 5 Cluster Clubs to present each club with a Rotary Citation for 2020-21. Congratulations Michael.

Secretary Ross Smith presented to the Board a draft of the proposed New Member Brochure. Once finalized the New Member Brochure will be added to our web site for all members and prospective members to view.

The District Conference for DG Dale Hoy’s year will be held from 30th April / 1st May 2022. It is planned that this will be an in – person District Conference in Regional Victoria but this will depend on restrictions at the time.

The next Rotary Leadership Course will be held on Saturday 20th November (parts 1 and 2) from 11am to 12.30pm, part 3 on Sunday 21st November from 11am and part 4 will be held on Sunday 28th November from 11am. At this stage the course will be run via zoom. I highly recommend this course to any members new or old who have not done this course.

The next RYPEN Camp will be held from Friday 5th November to Sunday 7th November at the Doxa Malmsbury Camp. We hope to be able to send 4 participants but this will depend on school exams.

This week I received an e/mail from Past President Jeff Garfield advising of his resignation from the Werribee Rotary Club. As most members will know, Jeff and Pam have moved to Point Lonsdale to live which would make it impractical to travel to meetings. Jeff has been a member for 43 years and has given great service to our club. Jeff indicated that he would like to keep in contact with the club whilst remaining a Friend of Rotary and is happy to help out with our projects when available.

PP Lyn Fava put a proposal to the Board regarding establishing a Busy Feet Program. Arrangements are being made for Annette Butterworth and Lyn to do a presentation to the Board at our October Board meeting. It is also hoped that this presentation can be arranged for a club meeting in the near future.

DG Dale Hoy will be hosting a morning tea with the DG this coming Saturday 18th September commencing at 10am till 11am. Details on how to book via Trybooking will be in the Bulletin.

Please continue to keep in touch with members who do not attend our zoom meetings to make sure they are alright. It is also very important to check in on family members as well.

Next week’s guest speaker will be Deborah Gorsuch, Manager Uniting Care.

I will close with a thought for the week: Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.

Have a great week and above all stay safe.

Graham

THIS WEEK AT ROTARY - 14.09.2021

The highlight of the night, was the induction of Andi Barnfield to the Werribee Rotary Club. We have been waiting for a number of weeks, in the hope that Covid restrictions will be lifted, and that Andi can be inducted to the club in person. As our Covid numbers are going in the wrong direction, it is unlikely an in person meeting will be held before December.

Congratulations Andi, and welcome to the club.

Unfortunately our guest speaker Councilor Sahana Ramesh failed to keep her speaker commitment, and Ian Hovey came to the rescue again, with a Rotary Video, and a scary Ted Talk by Katie Mack - about "the death of the universe, and what it means for life"

Tip of the week
This weeks tip is very important, given we are 'locked up' without easy access to the bottle shop.
Feel like lovely chilled Chardonnay or Sav Blanc, but you don't have a bottle in the fridge.
Wrap a bottle in a cold wet towel, and put it in the freezer. This dramatically speeds up the chilling process.
PS: Don't forget you put the bottle in the freezer.
