PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Presidents Message:

Hopefully the state will achieve its 80% 1st vaccination rate by the end of this week. If achieved it will allow for some outdoor activities to re commence.

On Wednesday I have to have my day 13 test for Covid, provided the test comes back negative I will be released from Isolation at 11.59pm on Thursday 30th September. So looking forward to being released from isolation.

From The Board

Recently Wyndham Park Community Centre reached out to the Wyndham Rotary Club to see if there was any way they could help provide food and clothing for 500 Afghan Refugees who recently arrived to settle in our community. Wyndham President Jenny Nunan called me to see if our club could assist financially with this project. Phillip Hartcher ( Wyndham Rotary Community Director) has done an outstanding job in arranging food and clothing for the Afghan Refugees.

After speaking to and e/mailing my Board Members it was decided to provide a donation of $2,000 to the Wyndham Rotary Club to assist with this worthy project.

ROTARY WALK WITH US TO END POLIO

The Rotary Walk With Us campaign throughout October is a fun way to raise awareness and funds to End Polio Now.

Using Rotary’s friendly website (www.rotarywalkwithus.org), you can register to walk, set your distance and fundraising goals. Alternatively, you can donate to someone who is walking.

For the walkers the total distance you have set for the month is accumulated over the entire month of October. So, you can walk when, where and with whom you want in a COVID safe way.

Each walk is logged on the website along with all donations. It’s easy. Register to walk and donate at www.rotarywalkwithus.org

District Conference

The District Conference for DG Dale Hoy’s year will be held from 30th April / 1st May 2022. It is planned that this will be an in – person District Conference in Regional Victoria but this will depend on restrictions at the time.

Please continue to keep in touch with members who do not attend our zoom meetings to make sure they are alright. It is also very important to check in on family members as well.

Next week’s guest speaker will be: Libby Fifis, GM St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Werribee.

I will close with a thought for the week: “Be mindful, Be grateful, Be positive, Be True, Be kind”.

Have a great week and above all stay safe.

Graham

THIS WEEK AT ROTARY - 21.09.2021

This weeks guest speaker on Zoom was ex AFL footballer Peter Cransberg. Peter grew up in Bunbury, about 2 hours south of Perth, and moved to Perth when he was 18 to undertake an Agricultural Degree at Perth University.
While in Perth he played in the WAFL with East Perth, who finished last or second last in the three years he was there.

He has a good season in 1988 with East Perth, and was hopeful of being drafted into the AFL, but no clubs showed any interest. His 1989 season was no where near as good as 1988, but Essendon drafted him at pick 39.

Peter's initial observation of Essendon, was just how much more professional they were than East Perth. Training was held twice a week at night, as the majority of players were in full time employment. Media scrutiny of players was far less than today. Essendon organised a job for Peter at the Department of Agriculture, where he stayed for many years.

He played every game in his first year 1990, including the loosing grand final to Collingwood.

Peter believes the best era of AFL football was the 80's & 90's, where games were free flowing & not totally defensive.

Peter's last game was on Sunday 31st August 1997. He left the field before half time with a serious knee injury. During the half time break, the announcement was made to a shocked crowd at Princess Park, that Princess Diana had died.

Tip of the week
Many people who have there car stolen, also have there house broken into. Most people put their home address into their Sat Nav, which makes it very easy for criminals. Use a nearby shop or intersection as your home address.
