A big warm Werribee welcome to our newest member Luke Bowden.

Despite his youthful appearance, Luke has packed a lot into his life's journey so far including:
  • He was born and bred in Adelaide.
  • He is proudly first nation.
  • He likes AFL footy but he played rugby league during his early years and is a devoted fan of the Sydney Roosters.
  • He started his career at the ripe old age of 12 working at Channel 7 as a mascot for the Adelaide Crows.
  • After 10 years in that role, he defected to Channel 9 where he spent 3 years as Humphrey B Bear.
  • As a result of the Bali bombing where some of Luke's mates were victims, he established a fund that has raised $2 million since it was created. The funds have been used to establish and maintain a special Bali medical bus.
  • While he was at Channel 9, he was a weather presenter for a while.
  • In a federal election, he was the coalition candidate for one of the seats in Adelaide. He didn't win but he earned the only positive swing for the coalition in SA.
  • He works as Head Chef at the MCG for the Delaware company.
  • He has 1600 casual employees under his wing. They work at one of the many food outlets around the MCG during sporting events.
  • He is also in charge of 12 other chefs. The amount of food that they cook is astronomical. For example, during one week of the footy season, they produce 7 tonnes of protein-based food.
Luke has obviously packed a lot into his life so far and there appears to be no signs of him slowing down.

In the past he has conducted successful trivia functions and he would like to organise a big fund raising trivia event for our club. He has already set the date of 18th October.

It's great to have such an active and enthusiastic newcomer as Luke on board. We wish him well for a rewarding and enjoyable journey in Rotary.
