At our recent club changeover, we said farewell and thanks to outgoing President Rob Fava and welcomed his lovely wife, Lyn, as the new President for 2025-26. This is Lyn's second time as our leader. She was President in 2012-13.
Rob presided over a very successful year for the club. Some of the major achievements that have been completed under his guidance have included:
- Raising $27,500 at our annual charity golf day and donating the proceeds to a local community organisation called Reclink.
- Distributing a total of $20,000 to 9 community groups to assist them in establishing and supporting their community projects. The funds were supplied as a result of our involvement in the local weekly community Bingo program.
- Providing our services and funds to feed breakfasts to young primary school children who arrive at school hungry.
- In conjunction with neighbouring clubs, conduct a Men's Health Forum with expert speakers discussing health matters such as heart health, mental health and prostate.
- Continuing to operate a very successful Opportunity Shop which is run by a dedicated and passionate group of volunteers.
- Offering vocational scholarships to assist tertiary students at Gordon TAFE who are struggling to cover educational expenses.
- Encouraging those who love knitting to knit baby beanies and blankets which are delivered to our local hospital and also exported to a district in Papua New Guinea.
- Completion of a clean water project in The Philippines. This is an on-going exercise to help one Filipino community. We are already working on another water project which is due for completion in 2025.
With the help of members and partners, President Lyn is very keen to continue the work performed and projects delivered over the past few years. In her maiden speech, she lauded the club for our strong support of the marginalised, the hungry and the disengaged. She said "Our community is only as strong as its most vulnerable members. And that's why I'm proud to lead our club - a club that is unwavering in its mission to Unite for Good".
Thanks Rob and best wishes to Lyn.
