PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Presidents Message:

It was so good to be back conducting face to face meetings even though we only had 8 members in attendance. We still had a good night.

Bingo continued on Monday night (17/1/2022) with 77 players in attendance raising a profit of $1,082. Thank you to Ross Smith and Andi Barnfield for helping on the night.

Our club has been asked to cook a BBQ as part of the Australia Day Celebrations at Lollipop Park, Manor Lakes from 11am till 3pm. Roly Wade has been kind enough to offer to clean our BBQ Van and transport it to Lollipop Park. We will operate 2 shifts 10.30am to 1pm and 1pm till finish, We need 3 members per shift. I will send an e/mail out to those members who indicated that they were willing to help on Australia Day.

It has been decided for members safety and well being our next 4 weekly meetings will be held on zoom. Either Ian Hovey or myself will send out the invitation for next week’s meeting.

It is with great sadness that I advise members that PP Lyn Fava has submitted her resignation from the Werribee Rotary Club for personal reasons. Lyn was President of our club in 2012/2013 and was awarded a PHF in December 2018. Lyn will be greatly missed as she was a very active and dedicated Rotarian. I sincerely wish Lyn all the very best for the future.

I will close with a thought for the weekWith the new day comes New Strengths and New thoughts.

Graham

THIS WEEK AT ROTARY - 18.01.2022

We met at ISCW with very low numbers. Our numbers are impacted by a number of members who are close contacts of Covid, and are required to isolate.

The ISCW was nearly deserted with only a few players in the 'pokies' and ten in the restaurant. The ISCW said numbers have dropped by 50% in the last week, as patrons have reacted to Covid numbers of 30,000 a day, and decided it is safer to stay at home, and reduce the risk.

Alphabet Racing organiser Ian Hovey presented the perpetual trophy to Peter Sandlant, who was the runaway winner of the 2021 Alphabet Cup. Thanks to Ian Hovey who organised the fun competition.

NEXT MEETING - Tuesday 25th January

It seems like the Victorian Public is voting on its feet, and have decided that the risk of catching Covid with 30,000 cases a day, is too great, and are avoiding public gatherings such as restaurants and hotels.

Accordingly the Board has taken the decision, to revert to Zoom meetings for the next four weeks, while we moniotor this Omicron variant, and hopefully we see the daily numbers continue their downward trajectory.

We are re-arranging our guest speakers, and your Zoom invitation will contain details of our speaker.

District 9800 Annual Conference

We haven't had a District Conference for two years due to Covid, but a conference is planned for 2022.

Werribee have been great supporters of District Conferences, winning the conference attendance award on two occassions.

Lets hope we can get a group to attend.
