Spread The Warmth Appeal – Supporting the Homeless

Wyndham Uniting Care wants to bring warmth and comfort to people sleeping rough this winter -and is looking for our help.

What each of us can do is to look through our cupboards and drawers to collect and donate clean items in good condition which we no longer need – blankets, doonas, pillows, jackets, warm clothes, woollen socks, gloves, beanies, scarves, etc.

Bring them to next week’s meeting and Vas Samaltanos will be collecting all of your donated items. They will go to Uniting Care in Werribee who will be distributing them to homeless people in the district

As part of the Spread The Warmth Appeal, the Board will consider donating $840 to Wyndham Rotary Club to purchase 8 Backpack Beds for Wyndham Uniting Care to distribute to homeless people.

Looking to the future

I was very pleased to have Imran Kashem and Jerestine Sahar join with again for this week’s meeting. An unexpected bonus was that Jerestine was accompanied by her father, Jehan Sahar.

Imran and Jerestine have expressed interest in joining our Club and collected membership application forms from Secretary Kim.

We look forward to getting more acquainted with Imran, Jerestine and Jehan.

As I mentioned during the evening, it would be a great privilege for me to be able to conduct a New Member Induction Ceremony at my final meeting as Club President on June 15th.

Thurs, June 3 – Bunning’s BBQ at Hoppers Crossing

Footy Tipping - Round 10
It only took two weeks for 'the egg man' to give up his three point lead, and now the chasing pack have 'caught him'.

Tony Tod  got the $10 for closest margin on Friday night.

Five tippers managed 8 out of 9 this round. Ross Conley, Ross Smith, Phil Purdy, Sunliner & Tino. Brian Ahmed & Daide got 7, and Ann Smith, Ian Hoivey tipped 8 out of 9 to win round 9. There was a large pack 9 tippers who got 7 - Tony Tod, Lucky Phil, Ann S, Groper, Hovey, Daide, Liz, and Graham Roper got 7.

The leaderboard after 10 rounds is;
  • Brian Ahmed 65
  • Ross Conley 65
  • Tony Todaro 63
  • Phil Purdy 63
  • Ann Smith 61
  • Ian Hovey 61
  • Graham Roper 61
The hard luck story of the round was 'the bulletin editor' who picked Adelaide, but changed his tip to Melbourne 5 minutes before the ball was bounced, ending up with 8 out of 9.

The Role of the Victorian Farmer's Federation in Agriculture
The Role of the Victorian Farmer's Federation in Agriculture

Danyel has just been appointed as the vice-president of the Victorian Farmer's Federation.

At 28, Danyel is the federation's youngest ever vice-president.

Ms Cucinotta said she hoped her election would encourage other women and young people working in agriculture to take on leadership positions. "We have different ideas. We see things differently," she said.

Ms Cucinotta is a third-generation farmer who works on her family egg farm at Werribee South.

She said farmers needed to better impart a modern picture of farming to consumers, including advancements in technology and animal welfare.
