District 9800 Honours Werribee Rotary Club
Past DG Grant Hocking has informed Brian Ahmed that Werribee Rotary has been awarded a Rotary Citation and Platinum Distinction for the 2019-20 Rotary year.
This is a significant acknowledgement of what both Brian and the Club were able to achieve during all those months before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. Grant Hocking has accepted my invitation to attend our next meeting on Sept 15th. Grant will be presenting Brian and the Club with this wonderful recognition for Brian’s Presidential year.
The Rotary Citation is a significant award that honours clubs whose leaders and members show a commitment to success. Clubs that achieve the goals required to earn the Rotary Citation are strengthening Rotary and shaping our future.
For the 2019-2020 year, clubs could also receive the Rotary Citation with Distinction when they achieve the Rotary Citation plus one to three additional goals under the headings; Connect leaders, connect families, connect professionally, and connect community (SILVER (1 goal), GOLD (2 goals), or PLATINUM (3 goals)).
A Great October Project for Werribee Rotary
Rob Fava will be talking more to the Club about this opportunity for our members to undertake Rotary Service in October, during Covid-19 lockdown time.
As part of Rotary’s End Polio Now international campaign, our District has organised a fundraising activity Walk With Us, for those who can’t during October 2020.
The total distance walked can be accumulated over the month of October.
Individuals and groups can walk when, where and with whom you want in a COVID safe way. Each walk can be logged on the website as can fundraising totals.
This is a wonderful way for you to be involved in a ‘hands on’ activity – by WALKING!
Every kilometre counts - walking the dog, walking to the shops, walking around the golf course, walking for exercise or just walking for pleasure!
What about a TEAM of Werribee Rotarians entering?
Geoff Smith’s induction as an Honorary Member, Tues Sept 15th
Next week will be a special night for the Club, with the Induction of Geoff Smith as an Honorary Member of Werribee Rotary.
If you would like to be included in the Testimonials/Roasts to Geoff, please contact the Master of Ceremonies, Ross Smith.
Chirnside Cluster Clubs meet with District Governor, Philip Archer
Thank you to all our members who attended the Cluster Meeting yesterday evening with DG Philip Archer. Of the 62 people attended, many were members of Wyndham and Hoppers Crossing Clubs, who normally meet on Wednesdays.
DG Philip encouraged Clubs to work collaboratively and for Rotarians to be RADICAL – by doing things in different ways.
On Sat Sept 19th representatives from the Cluster Clubs will be meeting to discuss a combined Cluster activity to celebrate Rotary’s Centenary year. Werribee Rotary hopes to present some ideas for a local community environmental project. Please let et Kathryn Williams know if you are interested in teaming up with her.
Next Board Meeting
This will be held on Wed Sept 16th at 7.30 pm. I will email all Board members with the Zoom link.
Postscript: Chris Ochaya in Uganda
Sarah Ochaya has been in contact with me and let me know that last June Chris was in a serious car accident in Gulu. He was taken to hospital for treatment, while his car was badly damaged, needing major repairs. In July Chris ‘had a bit of an emotional breakdown’ and went to a rehabilitation centre in Entebbe (300 km south). At the end of September Sarah will be picking Chris up from Entebbe to take him back to Gulu.
This week I spoke with Michael Knight (Sarah’s father) in Sydney, who said the family feel that Chris is recovering well and that returning to Gulu should be good for him. The large house/Operations Centre Chris has built in Gulu is close to finished and ready for the family to occupy.
Sarah has said to me the family would be very grateful for any financial assistance to help out with finishing off their house or for their other expenses.
Chris has made many friends in Werribee Rotary. If you, as an individual, would like to assist Chris by making a personal donation, then this can be by depositing money into the Tamarind Bank Account in Sydney (tax exempt status). I can provide you with the Bank details. As for myself, I will be helping support Chris with a donation.
Regards
Michael
