THIS WEEK AT ROTARY - 16.11.2021

Week two back at the Italian Sports Club.

Our guest speaker this week was Ann Considine, who gave her first public presentation.

A few years ago Anne and her husband had to deal with her 20 year old son coming out as gay. This was followed a couple of years later by her second son, who also come out.

Anne detailed how her family dealt with this revelation, which came out of the blue. The family had no idea, as their son had girlfriends in the past. Annes husband, who runs a transport business, had significant problems and couldn't cope. He spent a ot of time looking backwards, and saw himself as a failing to bring up the kids. He also required professional counselling.

Anne became very emotional a number of times during her talk, recognising the pressures on the family.

Anne decided to write a book to detail the struggles the family went thru. The book is called From Outside the Closet, and includes 10 chapters, with each detailing an individual family, and how they dealt with "coming out"

ALPHABET RACING

Only nine furlongs to go in the big race. They are now coming around the bend and about to head for home down the long straight.

And just when you thought the result was a foregone conclusion, we now have a new leader. Not only did Filthy Phil collect 21 points last weekend, he added a further 12 this weekend including another $15 prize at Cranbourne. As a result, has taken total control of the race. He leads by 3 lengths from a tiring Mad Dog Muir.

But his performance has raised some serious questions among the stewards. How can a horse who was struggling to keep up with the pack at the back of the track now be at the front of the field after only two short weeks? Obviously he will be swabbed at the end of the race if his form continues.

Two Metre Peter has slipped quietly into equal fourth place with The Egg Man and is now only 4 lengths behind. He has had plenty of wind in his sails but, over the next few weeks, his boat may be becalmed as he steers into the U to Z sea.

Anne of Green Grasses put in a solid effort after she was threatened to be put out to pasture. She now sits mid-field with better things to come soon. Her progeny, Randall's Candles, is a length ahead of her dam and also in good shape. These two are inseparable. They seem to be spurring each other along.

And finally, the last placed Handy Andi has realised her potential and started to pick up some speed. She was the superior horse at Newcastle and won the $15 bonus with 8 points.

That has left the luckless Rudolph Ballantino in last place and a long way from the front. He's like the Carlton footy team - plenty of promise but failing to deliver. Let's hope he gets out of his blues otherwise it's the wooden whip for him.
