PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

President's Message

It was very disappointing to only have 9 members in attendance at last night’s meeting and I urge all members to make an effort to attend our weekly club meetings. Rotarian Lorry Rowe was again a very welcome visitor. Nusrat was also a very welcome guest.

Our guest speakers were Sarah Oshannessy and Tim Weir from Interact Australia.

At last nights Bingo we had 91 players and we made a profit of $926.Thank you to Vas and Enzo who helped on the night.

I have now placed the order for 30 Pola Fleece Sleeping bags to be donated to the Werribee Salvation Army to distribute to the Werribee homeless and they will be delivered directly to the Werribee Salvation Army.

The District Conference was held from 22nd to 24th April in Albury. There about 350 in attendance. To me the highlight was the main guest speaker Lucy Bloom. Lucy is an award - winning leader and speaker, exceptional communicator, and business fixer with the best mohawk in the business.

We also had the Rotary International President elect Jennifer Jones join us via video link from Melbourne. Jennifer spoke about the International Rotary Conference which next year is being held in Melbourne.

On Sunday of the Conference, I had the pleasure of presenting the District Foundation Chair Murray Verso with a cheque for $5,000.

Our next Bunnings BBQ which was scheduled for Thursday 21st April has had to be cancelled as Andi was not able to get enough volunteers as several members are attending the District Conference. Our next Bunnings BBQ will be on Thursday 19th May.

Next week’s guest speaker is  TBA.

I will close with a thought for the week: Let us make our future now, and let us make our dreams tomorrows reality.

 Graham

THIS WEEK AT ROTARY - 26.04.2022

This weeks guest speakers were Tim Weir & Sarah O'Shanessy  from Interact Australia.

Interact Australia is a Not for Profit, Disability Youth Services Provider. It is part of the Into Work Australia group, with an office in Werribee. They have been operating for 30 years, commencing in 1991.

Their goal is to "Empower people to achieve full potential".

The business is an NDIS provider and is fully funded by the federal government. They are never short of business, as it is estimated that 1 in 5 people in Australia have a disability of some sort. This is a staggering 2.1m people aged between 15 and 64.

Interact assist the disability clients and business to climb of the mountains of paperwork and red tape that needs to be addressed to employ a person with a disability.

NEXT WEEK - 03.05.2022

As reported in the President's Report (above), next weeks guest speaker is to be advised.

As our attendance at meetings continues to decline, we are now at a point where we can hardly justify organising a guest speaker to speak to a handful of people. It is an embarrassment when a speaker makes the effort to travel to us to speak, and we only have enough members to fill one table. Some members haven't attended a single meeting this year.

Be honest to yourself & Werribee Rotary, and call President Graham and tell him why you are unable to attend any meetings. If it is Covid, the venue we meet at, the meal, the quality of guest speakers, the night we meet etc,  we might be able to address it if we know what the problem is.

Footy Tipping - after 6 Rounds

Not a bad round of football, culminating in The Pies demolition of the Bombers on Anzac Day.

We are nearly a quarter of the way through the system, and Footscray, Richmond & Essendon need a couple of quick wins each, or the finals will disappear in the distance.

It must have been a pretty easy round, with 6 tippers getting 8 - Poppy, Tiger, Ross C, Marg Wade, Ann S & Ross S. Another 8 or 9 got 7.

Lucky Phil & Pres Graham shared the $10.

After 6 rounds the leaderboard is:

39 points - Poppy Daddy & Tiger.

38 points - Ross Conley.

37 points - Marg Wade, Ann Smith, Ricky James, FloreatPica35,  .
