The Facemasks Team Flies High!
Congratulations to Mary Macauley and the Facemasks Project team members for the great job they have been doing in making cloth facemasks. Mary reports that, of the first 350 masks made, 200 have been given to Uniting Care Wyndham and 150 to the Salvation Army Wyndham. These cloth masks will be distributed to people who might not otherwise be able to purchase them.
Mary also has 60+ additional cloth masks available. Please contact her if you would like some for yourself, family members or people you know. Thank you to Brian Ahmed, who has offered to take a supply to sell at Wyndham Cache, with proceeds to go into the Club’s Charity Account.
A First for the Interact Club at Wyndham Central College
Kim Deneys and Graham Roper provided an update on their weekly meeting with the Interact Club at Wyndham Central College. Congratulations to the Interact Club members who are underway with their very first Interact Club Project! This involves making knitted blankets for the Salvation Army Wyndham to distribute to people in need.
This is a wonderful achievement for the students, given the huge disruption to schools caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Go to our Facebook page for more information about this Interact Club Project.
A Rotary Centenary Project for the Chirnside Cluster Clubs
I have emailed each of you with details of the Zoom link for the Chirnside Cluster meeting of on Wed, Sept 9th at 6.45 pm. The host is Wyndham Rotary Club and its President, Michael Lapina.
This Official Visit by District Governor Philip Archer will enable him to meet and speak with all of the five Wyndham Clubs and their members.
Each Club President will speak briefly about some of their Club’s achievements and activities.
As you know, my special interest is to see if the Cluster Clubs would like to work together on a combined Centenary Project to celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia & NZ.
Geoff Smith’s Induction as an Honorary Member
Our meeting on Sept 15th is an opportunity for the Club to recognize Geoff Smith and the wonderful contribution he has made as a member of Werribee Rotary since 1999.
Ross Smith will be Master of Ceremonies for the Testimonials and Roasts to Geoff. I know there will be many memorable stories to recount which involve Geoff Smith!!
Please let Ross know if you would like to be included in the Testimonials and Roasts segment of the evening.
Following on from this I will have the great pleasure of conducting an Honorary Member Induction Ceremony into Werribee Rotary Club for Geoff.
The second part of the evening will be a Trivia Quiz conducted by Ian Hovey. This will be a salute to all those quizzes, competitions and activities organised over the years by Geoff!
Have a fulfilling week everyone. See you next Wednesday!
Michael
