PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Presidents Message:

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has confirmed the states lockdown will continue until 70% of Victorians are vaccinated. Mr Andrews said "modest changes" to restrictions hopefully will be made on the 23rd September once the 70% vaccination rate is achieved. So unfortunately we will have to continue to hold our meetings on zoom for a few more weeks. I certainly look forward to the day when we can meet in person at the ISCW.

Presidents Connecting

On Saturday morning I attended a District Presidents Connecting meeting on zoom. The purpose of this meeting was to check in on as many clubs as possible and to offer assistance if needed. DG Dale Hoy outlined some suggestions on how clubs could get through these troubled times. Some of his suggestions were to contact members regularly, ensure all members can use zoom, have lots of variety in meetings and events and above all have fun in the zoom room.

Other suggestions were to think activity, not just donations. Work with your local agencies such as the council, MP, churches etc. Connect with your cluster clubs.

DG Dale plans to conduct these meetings on a regular basis with the district club presidents.

This Weeks Guest Speaker

Our guest speaker this week was Cat McCarthy a people development manager with the McCarthy Plumbing Group. Cat gave an insight into life involvements inside and outside her family’s plumbing business. Thankyou Cat for taking the time to talk to our club.

It was also nice to welcome Renae Ahmed (daughter of Brian) to our meeting.

I respectfully ask members to keep in touch with members who do not attend our zoom meetings to make sure they are alright. It is also very important to check in on family members as well.

Next week’s guest speaker will be Shana Ramesh, Harrison Ward Councillor, who will speak on the Environment, Sustainable Living and Diversity.

I will close with a thought for the week: It may not be our choice to stay home but it’s our choice to stay positive.

Have a great week and above all stay safe.

Graham

THIS WEEK AT ROTARY - 07.09.2021

Our guest speaker this week on Zoom, was Cat McCarthy.
Cat is the People Development Manager, at McCarthy Plumbing, a business she operates in Williams Landing with her husband.

Cat's early years were spent in Perth, where she worked for the AFL in a community development role working with young & indigenous players.
She moved to the UK for 3 years, and had similar roles with English Premier League soccer clubs.

Cat's passion is the development and retention of staff. In a 'blokey' industry where less than 3% of staff are women, Cat is proud that they employee a women plumber, and have another in the pipeline.

Cat was recently recognised as a Bronze Medalist, in the Aus Mumprenaur Awards, in the category - Service Business Excellence.
Aus Mumprenaur, in conjunction with the Women's Business School, acknowledge the contribution of women in business, product development & innovation.

NEXT WEEK -

Tuesday 14th September on Zoom

At yesterday's press conference, The Premier of Victoria, the Hon Daniel Andrews MP, advised that the current 1,920 active Covid, will likely reach 18,000 in 6 weeks time. Just the news we were all hoping for.
That doesn't give us any hope at all, of a return to ISCW for our meetings, any time soon.

So next, next week we will be on Zoom again, and our guest speaker will be City of Wyndham Harrison Ward Councilor, Sahana Ramesh.
Cr Ramesh will talk to us on "Building a Smart City in Wyndham"

Tip of the week
For those who frequent McDonalds and love their French Fries, do you realise a single serve has a whopping 189mg of salt!
Ask them for unsalted fries, and they will cook you a fresh batch with no salt. Your arteries will appreciate it.
