PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
 PRESIDENTS REPORT

August is Membership Month in the Rotary world so that set the focus and theme for Week 3. Our meeting was all about what we can do to increase our membership. We spent time reviewing the club’s current position and looking what to do:
  • Assess and Adapt
  • Create and Inclusive Club Culture
  • Engage the Current Membership
  • Connect with Prospective Members
  • Make new members Feel Welcome.

Charter Anniversary
We will be celebrating our 54th Charter Anniversary this year at the Bridge Hotel, 197 Watton St, Werribee on Tuesday the 16th of August commencing at 6:30pm. We look forward to seeing all members and partners to celebrate our birthday. I will be asking each Rotarian, and partner if they wish, to give us their best ‘Rotary Moment’ in a one-minute presentation (yes 1 minute Only). Should be a bit of fun and informative for our newer members.

Coming Up
Remember this coming Tuesday 9th we will be hearing from PDG Julie Mason on the proposed Regionalisation Vote and the latest plans of the Rotary In Action Group.
Acknowledging Clubs from Around the World

This Week at Rotary

August is membership month in Rotary, and President Colin presented a summary of strategies we can look at to improve membership & retention.

  • Better engagement with new members
  • Focus on vocations
  • Understand what drives new members
  • Review our meetings to make them relevant
  • Consider joint meetings with other clubs
  • Considering a suitable venue in central Werribee.
  • Looking at a social weekend away.
  • We are looking at a venue for a Vocational Visit. Suggestions please.
  • Create an inclusive club culture

Philippines Orphanage Project
The District have approved the grant of $5,000 to match the $10,000 provided by Werribee Rotary.
The Cabanatuan City Rotary Club will administer the spending of the funds, and we expect the fitout of the school rooms to be complete for the start of the school year in about 6 weeks.

Vale Jehan Saher
On 29th July, Jehan Saher, father of Jerestene passed away. Jehan was 79 years of age.
Our thoughts go out to Jerestene & her family.

Vale Tony Mason
We are advised that past member Tony Mason passed away recently. Our thoughts go to Tony's family.

Membership Subscriptions
The treasurer has sent out the 2022/2023 membership subscriptions invoices. The cost for the year is $300 due immediately, or $150 now and the balance on 01.01.2023.

NEXT WEEK

Tuesday 9th August.

Our guest speaker next week will be Past District Governor Julie Mason.
Julie will be speaking on the Zone 8 Regionalisation Project.
Rotary is proposing a three year trial for Australia, New Zealand & the Pacific Islands, where a new structure will be developed to replace districts.
An administration representing much bigger areas, is expected to deliver better services to the clubs.
Lots of benefits are expected for clubs, as well as a far cheaper administration.
In September 2022, clubs in Aust, NZ & the Pacific Islands will be asked to vote to approve the Pilot Project, which will run for 3 years. At the expiration of the project an evaluation will take place, and the clubs will vote again to decide if the project continues.

Tuesday 16th August

On Tuesday 16th August the club will celebrate its 54th Anniversary.
Partners, friends of the club, and volunteers who assist us, are  invited to help us celebrate the night, at the Bridge Hotel, Watton Street.
This will be a social night only.

Footy Tipping - after 20 Rounds

Well with three rounds to go, it doesn't look like Ross C, Floreat or Hoveycat, has enough horsepower to overhaul leader Graham Roper.

Graham now has a four point lead, and unless he he makes some horrendous choices (or tips the Tigers) they are not going to catch him.

This week Graham Roper, Christine Conley, Peter Ross & Margaret Wade got 8 winners, while Ross S & Liz Ross got 7.

Ann Smith & Peter Ross share the $10 for closest margin.

After 20 rounds, Graham still leads with 127, followed by Ross C on 123, Floreat 121, and Hoveycat on 120.

OTHER BUSINESS

Covid Protocols from the Coronavirus Website

Influenza & Covid are both contagious respiratory illnesses. They both have similar symptoms, and you cannot tell the difference between the two by looking at the symptoms alone.

For the safety of all Rotary members, if you or a family member are sick or unwell, or have been in contact with somebody who has Covid, please follow extreme caution, and stay away from Rotary until your illness passes, or you have met Covid isolation protocols.

Covid is incredibly contagious, so lets err on the side of caution.
