VERY SPECIAL KIDS
Very Special Kids was set up to support children mainly under 15 with terminal illnesses. This is a free of charge service run through a hospice service in Malvern.
The service supports around 900 families a year with psychosocial support for the whole family as well as 24 hour respite services.
Very Special Kids has 100 staff & 1,000 volunteers. They require $9 million a year to provide services, but only receive 22% from the government. The remainder is fundraised.
VSK has a project underway to demolish & rebuild the hospice in Malvern, at a cost of $15 million.
South Sudanese Living in Wyndham Group
We had a presentation from Apanda, Rachael & Moses from the South Sudenese Group, with a proposal to our club to assist the group with the Sinna Mentor Program.
The program is to help young sudenese youth to define their purpose in life, and to encourage interaction with the community.
The program addresseses the high drop-out rates from schools, and to use providers such as Rotary to assist the integration.

PAUL HARRIS BREAKFAST - 21st NOVEMBER
The Rotary Club of Central Melbourne is holding its 27th annual Rotary Foundation Paul Harris Breakfast on Thursday 21st November 2019 at the RACV City Club.
The guest speaker will be Dr Andrew Browning who has spent 17 years living with his family in Ethiopia amongst some of the poorest people in the world.
He specialises in treating a devastating birth injury called obstetric fistula.
Andrew is one of only a handful of surgeons in the world who have dedicated their lives to helping treat this problem. His charity has now built 3 maternity hospitals in Africa.
Tickets for the breakfast are $70 per person or $650 for a table of 10.
