Lisa Field is the Community Engagement and Fundraising Manager at Werribee Hospital Foundation.

She is recruiting people to become Hospital Hosts and to run fundraisers in their home, workplace, social or sporting club.  She is also seeking to establish a Werribee Hospital Auxiliary, the traditional method to engage and promote the community fundraising aspects of the foundation.

SUPPORTING KIDS IN VIETNAM

Rowan McClean, a member of the Rotary Club of North Balwyn, is the Chair of Overseas Kids Foundation (OKF) which is currently addressing the needs of several communities in Vietnam.

OKF is a Rotary-initiated program which was registered as a charitable trust in Melbourne in 2008.

Some of the projects they have concentrated on include:

  • Children's support
  • Water sanitization to WHO standards
  • Ultrasound machines to each district
  • Children's education
  • Breaking the poverty cycle by farming
  • Donations in Kind – container of furniture

Rowan suggested that our club could support the program in a number of ways:

  • Join a team visit to Vietnam
  • Fund a student
  • Fund raise for school clinic equipment

SEEKING ASSISTANCE AT MANSION FUN RUN

Geoff Smith is seeking volunteers to man the Rotary van from 8:30am to 12 midday to cook sausages for the participants of a fun run at the Werribee Mansion this Sunday (May 5).

If you can help for a couple of hours or more, please give Geoff a call.

TREE PLANTING DAY - 19TH MAY

In conjunction with Wyndham City Council, we will be conducting a Community Tree Planting day on Sunday 19th May. A total of 1454 trees will be planted. So it is a bigger exercise than our previous project where we planted 700 trees. That's why we are advertising it as a community event where we are asking for support from the people of Wyndham.

Click here to see the poster which will be displayed on various street notice boards.

IN BRIEF........
  • Footy Tipping - Ian Hovey won the weekly prize and Ross Smith selected 9 winners. But Mary Maguire, with 8 winning selections, has created a gap at the top of the table. She now has 34 winners. Graham Roper and Ross Smith are the closest chasers on 32.

  • Upcoming events/functions/meetings:

    • Tuesday 14th May - Vocational Visit to the Werribee Veterinary Hospital, 250 Princes Highway, Werribee. The first tour will commence at 6pm and the second will start at 6:30pm. Partners and guests are welcome. Dinner will be at the Racecourse Hotel at 7:30pm.

    • Sunday 19th May - we will be planting 1454 trees in Rossclare Court Reserve, Hoppers Crossing starting at 9am.

    • Thursday 23rd May - Bunnings BBQ

    • Sunday 26th May - District Assembly at Melton Tabcorp Park. All 2019-20 directors are requested to attend.

    • Monday 27th May - a joint social get-together with the Rotary Club of Hoppers Crossing at the Italian Sports Club to experience a Bingo session. This is not an official club meeting.

    • Tuesday 11th June - Club Changeover at Wyndham Cache. Click here to see the invitation from Brian and Nuge. Please RSVP as soon as possible.

PENGUINS

It is a known fact that the penguin is a very ritualistic bird which lives an extremely ordered and complex life. The penguin is very committed to its family and will mate for life, as well as maintain a form of compassionate contact with its offspring throughout its life.

If a penguin is found dead on the ice surface, other members of the family and social circle have been known to dig holes in the ice, using their vestigial wings and beaks, until the hole is deep enough for the dead bird to be rolled into, and buried.

The male penguins then gather in a circle around the fresh grave and sing:

“Freeze a jolly good fellow.”

“Freeze a jolly good fellow.”

Then they kick him in the ice hole.

CONVERT YOUR OLD TAPES

DIGITISE YOUR OLD PHOTOS

Do you still have a stack of old analog VHS or MiniDV tapes containing videos of special family moments from 15-30 years ago?

Do you have a player that you can still use to view the tapes?

If not, I can convert your tapes to DVD or USB to allow you to play the content on your computer or TV.

I can also edit the converted video files according to your requirements.

Do you have lots of old cherished hard-copy photos that are at risk of being lost, damaged or destroyed?

I can digitise them so that you can keep an ever-lasting memory of special times.
