Our last meeting for the 2018-19 Rotary year will be at our usual venue, the Italian Sports Club.
There will be no guest speaker. Instead we will be having a casual wind-down dinner to reflect on and celebrate all our great work for the year.
The following week will be our Changeover Dinner at Wyndham Cache where we say goodbye to President Graham and welcome our new President, Brian Ahmed.

Members, partners and friends visited the U-Vet Animal Hospital last week to learn about how sick and injured animals are managed when they are brought in by their owners.

Our host was Lynne Gillies who is a trained vet nurse but she is now involved in administration. The hospital offers a 24 x 7 service. It works in a similar way to a human hospital and consists of many services including:

  • General practice
  • Emergency and critical care
  • Neurology
  • Oncology
  • Surgery
  • Pain management
  • Diagnostic imaging
  • Pathology
  • Dermatology
  • Cardiology

The hospital even caters for exotic animals such as snakes, rabbits, rodents and birds. In addition, the U-Vet Equine Centre provides high quality surgical and medical care to horses of all shapes and sizes from thoroughbreds to ponies.

Another interesting service is the canine and feline blood donor program which involves extracting blood from registered pets in order to save the life of another pet. Did you know that 1 donor dog can save the lives of up to 12 other dogs in one year?

Last year, 2500 animals were seen at the hospital.

IN BRIEF........
  • Footy Tipping - Adrian Burt collected the weekly prize. He was only 3 points away from the actual margin. There were 7 tipsters who selected 7 out of 9 winners. Graham Roper is still out in front with 60 points but he is being hotly pursued by Mary Maguire (59) and Marty Vaina, Ann Smith and Ian Hovey (57). It's still anyone's game.

  • Sad to report that Kevin Comben, who once was a member of our club, passed away last week.

  • Upcoming Meetings in June:

    • Tuesday 4th June - Committee dinners at the Italian Sports Club.

    • Tuesday 11th June - Club Changeover at Wyndham Cache. Click here to see the invitation from Brian and Nuge.

    • Tuesday 18th June - Guest Speaker - Linden Smith - talking about the Youth Referral and Independent Persons Program.

    • Tuesday 25th June - Club Vision brainstorming session.
