Guest Speaker Tony Dowling
Tony is an ex Victoria Police officer, who retired due to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Tony returned to his pre-police career of landscaping.
During his treatment for PTSD, Tony felt that the services provided by VicPol provided medical assistance, but fell short in providing a service where sufferers can meet with the common goal of gardening.
Tony has established a charity called Y Not Try, who's objectives are:
Support emergency service members & 000 callers, suffering PTSD
Assist by providing physical, emotional, spiritual & mental healing
Raise awareness of PTSD at the highest levels
Teach PTSD sufferers new skills in gardening and plants
Help PTSD sufferers who can't leave there homes
Through the support of City of Werribee, Y Not Try has leased a 10 acre garden in Canning Rd Tarneit, which has been operational for 3 weeks. The farm/garden:
Provides a place where people can connect with other PTSD sufferers
Learn about horticulture, maintenance & landscaping

The next District 9800 Conference will be held in Bendigo from 12-14 April 2024.
Put the dates in your diary, and hopefully Werribee will be well represented again. Pres Kim will make some enquiries for an accommodation venue, and a club dinner venue.
The District 9800 website has just posted the prices, and early bird discounts.
As the field sweeps around the far bend, the pace-setter Killer Conley is bearing his molars to the breeze and snorting "I'm in front. Catch me if you can". But while he has a handy lead, the gap is closing as his pursuers start smelling the sweet scent of success. They are coming fast.
In second place, 9 lengths behind, is Oh What A Knight who seems to have found a second wind and is confident that he can catch the cocky Killer.
But there's another forgotten and formidable foe who has found his way forward. After a wonderful weekend performance, Bend De Knees has breezed his way through the field with ease. He gained a total of 14 points including 11 at Rosehill Gardens which won him the weekly award of $20. He narrowly beat the hot horse Barbie Q who sizzled along and burnt off her opponents to take 10 much-needed points.
At Flemington, the inaugural winner of this prestigious race, Galloping Gail, gave us a glimpse of her greater glory by winning the $20 prize. She picked up 9 points and was able to hold off a trio of tough troopers, Filthy Phil, Rudolph Ballantino and Graham the Groper.
Another eye-catching run came from the 4th placed Rockin' Robyn who is bopping along while her fans are singing her song.
She is followed by the ever-improving Busy Lizzie. If you listen closely, you can just hear her jockey urging her on.
And what about those at the back of the bunch? Unless fate intervenes, their dreams are extreme and are rapidly turning into nightmarish screams. (Apologies to Shakespeare)
