PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

President's Message

At tonight’s meeting we only had 9 members in attendance which is very disappointing as we had the pleasure of having one of our own Andi Barnfield do a job talk. Andi was very entertaining, and I am sure that all in attendance enjoyed her presentation. We also welcomed Lorry Rowe for the last time as she will be relocating to Queensland after her trip overseas.

At Monday’s bingo we had 84 in attendance and a profit of $1,056 was raised. Thankyou to Peter Ross and Brian Ahmed for helping on the night. Tony Todaro and Kim Deneys are rostered for next Monday Night.

I would like to provide a further update on the takeover of the Fit4 Use store. An Acquisition Committee of Ross Smith, Michael Redding and myself has been formed to formalise the takeover. A transfer of Business Agreement has been sent to Flemington Rotary Club for their signing. A management committee consisting of Ross Smith, Michael Redding, Andi Barnfield and myself will oversee the day to day running of the business and give a monthly report to the Board.

Our next Bunnings BBQ will be on Thursday 19th May. We need someone to pick up all the equipment from Brian Ahmed on the morning and take it to Hoppers Crossing Bunnings. Everything needs to be at Bunnings by 8.30am. Ian Hovey has kindly agreed to take everything back to Brian’s. If any member can help, please either advise me or Andi. If we can’t get a volunteer for this, then we will have to cancel again which would not be a good look for our club.

There will be no meeting next Tuesday the 17th May as we will be going out to Very Special Kids in Malvern to present them with a cheque for $22,000 from our recent Golf Day.

Sleeping Bags
I presented the sleeping bags to Pastor Tom Kite from Werribee Salvation Army.

I will close with a thought for the week: Don’t worry about failures, worry about the chances you miss when you don’t even try.

Graham

THIS WEEK AT ROTARY - 10.05.2022

Guest Speaker - Andi Barnfield
Born Andrea Maree Barnfield on the 30th of December 1970. Andi is the youngest of 3 – she has an older sister and brother. Growing up Andi lived in Mulgrave in the Eastern Suburbs. Her parents are Bob and Bev Barnfield.
Growing up Andi’s sister and brother endlessly teased her and convinced her that she was adopted. Andi hated them for this. Now Andi is close to her sister who lives close to her, and they find that they have many things in common apart from just our family. Andi does not speak to her brother, nor does he speak to the entire family.
High School Years
This is where I found my feet and voice. My defiance grew, it seems that I have a stubborn streak and don’t like being told what to do. Andi’s brother and sister also attended the same school and the teachers asked are you like your brother or sister. Andi replied I am Andrea Barnfield, and I am like ME
Work
Andi worked at Amcal Chemist in Waverly Gardens Shopping Centre as a Pharmacy assistant on Thursday, Friday nights and Saturday mornings. Andi was 13 at the time and her 1st pay packet was $12.60, she worked there for over 10 years. Andi left school at 17 years of age and went to work for a pharmacy in the city but continued to work at her old pharmacy on weekends. Andi went to night school and did a typing and bookkeeping course and lied her way into a job for Brashes. Brashes head office was in the old Allan’s building on Collins Street.
Andi went back to school and got a Health Science Diploma in Beauty Therapy. She eventually opened her own business “Skin Secrets Beauty Therapy” for a while on St Kilda Road. Andi now works for Roseby Rosner & Young; she began there in 1998 and is still there today some 25 years later. Andi is the office manager and is known as the problem solver.
Sport and other Interests
Taekwondo and Hockey were her chosen sports. Andi did a few different types of martial sports across the years to keep fit. Andi also played hockey at quite a good standard. She soon found out that she was not a runner and soon became the team’s goalie. Her signature move was to do the splits in front of goal to prevent the opposing team to scoring.
Family
Andi has 3 children, Terry, James and Will. Andi has a partner Colin who lives on the surf coast area. Her other interests are camping, gardening and DIY creations.

Footy Tipping - after 8 Rounds

The season is starting to settle down, with less 'turn-ups' each week.

Ann Smith & FloreatPica35 share the $10 this week, being 2 points off the actual margin.

For round 8, Liz Ross tipped 8 winners, Daidee and Chris Conley managed 7, and about 10 tippers got 6.

After 8 rounds, the only change to the leader board, is that Daidee has moved into 3rd place. (Essendon must have won)

50 points - Poppy Daddy, Tiger, Ann S & Ross C.

49 points - Ricky James.

48 points - Marg Wade, FloreatPica35, Daidee.

Sunliner & Lucky Phil are no longer last and have moved one clear of last place Lee.
