PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

Hello everyone.

What a week it has been.

As I speak to you I am in Werribee Hospital, due to an accident at home a week ago, when a gate fell on my leg.

The doubters (Phil & Ross) think I am just looking for sympathy, but it's not getting better, and needs some medical intervention.

Tuesday night was a very good meeting, with over 20 in attendance.

I hope I Will be right for next Tuesday night.

Pres Ian

THIS WEEK AT ROTARY

This weeks at Rotary, our guest speaker was Cho Cho Win, who fled Myanmar for a life in Australia.

Cho Cho studied for a Batchelor of Science at Myanmar University. Shortly after finishing her degree, the military overthru the Myanmar elected government, and installed themselves as the government. For most people in Myanmar, their human rights were removed.

She started a fiundation to support about 300 government employees who lost their jobs in the coup. This involved working at night under the cover of darkness to distribute aid. Many of her friends were arrested and jailed for speaking against the military. There was no court system, and the military applied the penalties they determined. Cho Cho and her husband became aware that the military were looking for them, and fled to the Thailand border. After swimming across a river, and being picked up by boat, they ended up in the Thai refugee camps. The Thai's were encouraging people to go to America, but the Aust Government had ageed to take a large number, and Cho Cho & her husband ended up in Melbourne.

Cho Cho will complete her studies in June, and will enter the ranks as a primary school teacher.
