In October, Daniel will be competing in a rally which is not a race, rather a challenge to achieve the unthinkable… To drive cars worth just $1,000 across Australia via some of its most formidable roads, all in the name of charity.
This particular rally will travel from Melbourne to Townsville via the Birdsville Track and is planned to take 7 days to complete.
This Week - Official Visit of District Governor Grant Hocking & Melisa
DG Grant spoke of his role as District Governor of District 9800. The DG role is to ;
To support district 9800 clubs.
To promote membership of Rotary.
To promote the Rotary Foundation
DG Grant spoke of his vision for D9800, and some of the strategies the district is putting in place.
D9800 has established a D9800 Diversity, Equity & Inclusion committee.
D9800 has established a sustainability committee to look at the impact of climate change, and a sustainable future
District 9800 has established a Youth Alumni committee, to address why so many people get involved at the youth level, but leave Rotary shortly after.
DG Grant spoke of a number of clever initiatives that the District is trialing.
3-4 new clubs are on the horizon
One that is about to be chartered is going to meet fortnightly, at night, with no meal.
A Passport Club is proposed - it will be a multi cultural club that meets every three months.
A Parents Club - meets on Sunday morning, with children
Theme based clubs based on Peace are being considered.
Two District events are in the planning phase, and DG Grant asks members to consider being involved.
The Polio Walk around Albert Park lake on 19 October
Train trip on Thurs 20 October to focus on Polio Day. Trains will leave for Melbourne from 4 different Victorian locations, all heading for Federation Square to arrive at 3.00pm.
The focus of the Rotary Foundation is still to eradicate Polio. Nigeria is now polio free, as is the whole of Africa.
Unfortunately the cases in Pakistan, Afghanistan & India have increased to 65 cases, double the previous year.
President Elect - 2020/2021
Carlo Vimercati has re-entered the workforce, with all the Government infrastructure projects, and is unable to continue as PE.
President Brian announced that Michael Redding will assume the role of President elect 2020/2011. Congratulations Michael.
Footy Tipping - Round 22
The $10 nearest the pin was won by Peter Ross who was 23 points from the margin.
With 1 rounds to go the winners are : $35 - Jason, $28 - Ross C, $25 - Adrian, $20 - Katheryn, $18 - Hoves, $15 - James, $13 - Graham, & Peter $10 - Ateam, Robert, Marty & Liz, and Christine, $5 - Ann. A big zero for the other 3.
Peter Ross was the only tipper to get 9 this week.
Phil managed 7, and daylight to the rest.
The ladder after round 22 is now a contest of two, as Ian & Mary Maquire have dropped off, and need to some divine intervention to win.
Graham Roper now leads with 127, followed by Ann Smith 125, followed by Ian & Mary on 123.
Round 23 doesn't look too hard. Who is going to go 'safe' (aka Graham) and who is going to tip an upset.
I am a bit short of a quid at the moment, so Go Ann.
The next Bunnings BBQ is on 22 August 2019. Geoff needs a few more volunteers, as the same ones are turning up each BBQ. Call Geoff if you can assist for an hour or two.
District Conference Bendigo 27-29 March 2020 - Brian has booked rooms at the Quality Apartments Lakeside. Let Brian know if you want to put your name to a room.
Bingo - we made $560 profit last night.
Give Me 5 Campaign - .we didn't have an SAA this week, and everyone contributed $5 to the foundation.
Ian Knight - Ian is in the Alfred for a couple of weeks with a staph infection. Get well Ian. DG Grant is not happy that you missed his visit, but figures you had a good excuse.
Raffle - Lucky Phil Purdy won the raffle this week. He said he is going to tell Barb he won $200, so she will want 'half'. Don't believe him Barb - he won $500, so get your 50%.
The Community Committee has agreed to run a Monster Book Sale during this Rotary Year.
We are probably looking at June 2020 during the school holidays.
We need to have the support of all members to start the process to collect about 15,000 books. As we get books we will store them in the various categories for the big day.
If you know anyone with old books, let the Community committee know so we can arrange to pick them up.
