A Successful completion to our R100 Tree Planting Project
Last Saturday, Werribee Rotary Club joined in with the Werribee River Association to plant several hundred trees in the Werribee River Park on the west bank of the river.
This Tree Planting Project was led by Kathryn Williams and the environmental team – Well Done Everyone!
Congratulations to all the Rotarians and friends who came along on Saturday morning to be part of celebrating the Centenary of Rotary in Australia & NZ by planting these trees.
All up we had 17 people helping out: Kathryn & Nathan with the 2 kids, Ian & Micki, Joe Cumbo, Vas with his son and daughter, Brian, Tony, Lyn, Michael, Jim, Rachael Hall and her son.
Kathryn has invited John Forrester and Lisa Field to an up-coming meeting when they will be presented with a Club cheque to support the ongoing work of the Werribee River Association.
The Mansion Fun Run is coming up on Sunday, May 2nd
Vas Samaltanos, our newest member, will be taking over as leader of this Club find-raising activity, as Jeff Garfield is in the process of moving home to Point Lonsdale.
Our Club is providing 7 people as officials to assist with supervising this morning event.
Vas will be providing printed details to each Rotarian setting out what they have to do on the day.
Through their work, each of our volunteers will be raising $75 for the Club.

Quo Vadis?
We are looking for your ideas and suggestions about more ways in which Werribee Rotary might provide additional support to worthwhile projects and groups in the community.
Please pass on your ideas to one of the Board members this week.
Our guest speaker at ISCW was past Rotary member past Australian Army member Pam Raison. Pam spent 27 years in the Australian Army, with a number of overseas postings, and many postings around Australia.
Pam spoke on the representation of females in the defense forces since WW1. In 1903, the Australian Army Nursing Service was formed, and a small number of nurses were involved in WW1. During the war these nurses were not recognised as military, but after the end of WW1, they got their recognition, and officer status.
Prior to WW2, a number of military nursing organisations were formed, including RAAFNS, WAAAF, WRANS, AWAS, AANS & AAWMS. Around 65,000 women were involved in WW2, in occupations such as nursing, signalers, typing & clerical, translators, cooks, aircraft mechanics etc. 72 women, mainly nurses were killed in WW2. Most of the fatalities occurred in Singapore in the attack by the Japanese.
In the 1980's, all of the womens units were disbanded, and incorporated into the services of Army, Navy & Air Force. In 1986 the RAAF accepted their first female pilots. 1990 saw the first women in combat roles. In 2000, 36% of graduates from ADFA were women. Women can now undertake any role, that they have completed the requisite training.
Next week Tuesday 27th April ,Michael Wasley - CEO Very Special Kids will be talking, and will be presented with a cheque for the proceeds of the Golf Day.
For the first time, and in the year we celebrate our Centenary of service above self in Australia, we are bringing together all five Rotary Districts in Victoria for a unique and inspiring Multi District Conference, Virtual Victoria.
Held over two days, Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd May from 11am to 1pm, the conference will be a celebration of Rotary’s achievements over the last 100 years, as well as a forum for new ideas and opportunities that will foster enthusiasm at club level to continue the amazing impact Rotary has within our communities.
I encourage you all to join with your family, friends and community partners to share in this wonderful online event and book via: https://www.rotaryconference.org.au/
We will be involved with the Werribee Mansion Fun Run. The club will receive $75 for each volunteer and the combined funds will go to The Rotary Foundation. Vas will be co-ordinating our involvement. We need 7 volunteers from 7.45 till 11.00am, and it looks like we have enough volunteers.

TREE PLANTING
Congratulations to Kathryn Williams, for organising the Centenary Tree Planting Event. About 17 volunteers attended and over 500 trees were planted. This is part of the Werribee River Park, that will eventually run from the freeway to Port Philip Bay, on the west bank of the Werribee River.
Werribee Rotary presented a cheque for $2,000 to Rocan last Sunday.
TIP OF THE WEEK
If you have batteries in your cupboard or drawer, and are not sure if they are dead or on the way out, follow this process.
Drop them onto a hard table from a height of about 6 inches. If they give one small bounce, then fall over, they are good. If they bounce around any more than that, they are dead or on the way out.
