PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Presidents Message:

One of the highlights of being a President is the opportunity to recognise a person whose life demonstrates a shared purpose with the objectives of Rotary. A Paul Harris Fellow is a recognition that was introduced in 1957 in Honor of Paul Harris who founded Rotary in 1905.

Tonight we had the honor of recognizing Ann Smith and Micki Hovey as they became Paul Harris Fellows as a special expression of appreciation from the Rotary Club of Werribee.

Congratulations Ladies and thank you for all that you do for our club.

Bingo continued on Monday night with 85 players in attendance raising a profit of $1,096 Thank you to Wendy Roper who assisted me on the night.

Tonight we held our Christmas function at Chirnsides by the River and 33 members and partners attended. The special presentations and the appearance of Santa (AKA Rob Fava) were highlights of the night. Our Music was ably provided by Alex Jones from Westside Talent.

We welcomed Ross and Christine Conley back to the Rotary family after travelling around Australia for the past few months.

Special thanks to Wendy Roper for all her hard work in organizing this special night. I also would like to thank Ian Hovey for doing a great job as MC.

The food and service provided by the Chirnsides by the River staff was excellent and much appreciated.

Our first meeting in 2022 will be on the 11th January, this will be a social evening at Robyn and Tino Ballans house starting from 5.30pm. More details will be sent out early in the new year.

On behalf of Wendy and myself I would like to wish all members, partners and families the very best for Xmas and may 2022 be a better year for all.

I will close with a thought for the weekChristmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting. It is happiness because we see joy in people. It is forgetting self and finding time for others.

Graham

And then there were two.

The final race in the 2021 Alphabet Cup is to be held at The Valley next Saturday and it promises to be a ding-dong affair between two of the most consistent horses in the race. Mr Sandlant is only 2 lengths ahead of Mad Dog Muir but they are both running on the smell of mouldy oats as their jockeys try to get every ounce of energy from their mounts. The frantic noise of the whips cracking against the rumps of the two combatants can clearly be heard over the wild cheering of the crowd. What an atmosphere!

In third place, after a withering run on the weekend is Filthy Phil, who had been written off but is now only 4 lengths behind. Can he snatch victory with a big effort next week? The punters say No but there's no doubt he will be trying hard to bridge that gap.

And another 4 lengths back are two horses, Rob the Boxer and a rejuvenated Two Metre Peter. They have been consistent performers during the race but their chances of making it to the podium are slim.

Lady Wade and Demon Ann are a further length behind but they have run their race and will just stroll to the line hand in hand.

There were some good performances on the weekend from several back markers who finally decided to do something to redeem some pride. At Flemington, the pair of Galloping Gail and Randall's Candles shared the $15 prize with 8 solid points. It was another dead-heat for the $15  at Royal Randwick where Two Metre Peter and Rudolph Ballantino amassed a massive 11 points each. Rudolph is still last but is now only 1 length behind Just Jess who has been unable to take the chocolates at any time during the race. She is just melting down.
