PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

President's Message

Unfortunately, we were not able to meet at the Italian Social Club this week due to power problems. But instead, 10 members and two guests Robyn Ballan and Lorry Rowe attended a social get together at the Commercial Hotel in Watton Street, Werribee. It was good to catch up with Tino Ballan, Jim Randall and Mary Macaulay. A great night was had by all. We will be back at the Italian Social Club next Tuesday for our weekly meeting.

There was no Bingo last night due to the power problems. Bingo will return next Monday night with Jim Randall and Peter Ross rostered for duty.

Two months ago, we were contacted by Flemington Kensington Rotary Club, advising that due to declining membership in their club, that they did not have the resources to continue to operate the Fit4Use Store they run, in Railway Avenue, Werribee. Werribee Rotary advised that we were interested in taking over the business, and a detailed evaluation was made of the business. The business has been in operation for 5 years and is extremely profitable, but profits were down in 2020 & 2021 when the business was closed for long periods due to Covid.

At a Board meeting last week, the Board voted to take over the running of the business from 01.07.2022. We have passed this decision onto RC of Flemington/ Kensington and are waiting for confirmation to proceed with the transfer. We have established an 'Acquisition Committee", who will do all the work required to take over on 01.07.2022. It is important for members to know, that the shop currently operates with a team of volunteers, and no RC of Flemington Kensington are involved in the day to day running of the shop.

We believe that the shop will provide our club with another positive source of income, which will allow us to be involved in a larger number of projects and discontinue smaller fundraising like mid-week Bunnings BBQ's. The shop will be managed from 01.07.2022 by a Management Team of 3-4 Rotarians, who are yet to be selected.

Our next Bunnings BBQ will be on Thursday 19th May. Andi will be in touch with members in the near future to get volunteers for this day.

Next week’s Guest Speaker is TBA

I will close with a thought for the week: Give every day the chance to become the most beautiful day of your life.

 Graham

THIS WEEK AT ROTARY - 03.05.2022

Social night at Commercial Hotel, due to unavailability of ISCW.

==========================================================================================

NEXT FEW WEEKS

Next week 10.05.2022 our guest speaker will be Phil Doolan, Adjunct Professor at Melbourne University, speaking to us about Creative Thinking.

The following week Tuesday 17.05.2022, there will be no meeting at ISCW. Instead we will be having a visit to Very Special Kids on Wednesday 18th May, to present them a cheque from the proceeds of the Golf Day. We plan to arrive at VSK Malvern at 11.00, and at aboput 12.30 we will have lunch at VSK or a local pub. Partners and friends are welcome, but you must let Ian Hovey know if you are coming.

On Tuesday 34/5/2022 the guest speakerrted in the President's Report (above), next weeks guest speaker is to be advised.

As our attendance at meetings continues to decline, we are now at a point where we can hardly justify organising a guest speaker to speak to a handful of people. It is an embarrassment when a speaker makes the effort to travel to us to speak, and we only have enough members to fill one table. Some members haven't attended a single meeting this year.

Be honest to yourself & Werribee Rotary, and call President Graham and tell him why you are unable to attend any meetings. If it is Covid, the venue we meet at, the meal, the quality of guest speakers, the night we meet etc,  we might be able to address it if we know what the problem is.

Footy Tipping - after 7 Rounds

Not a bad round of football. The pressure was on Richmond, GWS, Footscray & Essendon to get a win. They all delivered except the Bombers, who will now be struggling to get out of the bottom 6.

Not an easy round again this week, and we can expect a few turnups again. Melbourne have lost 3 of their last 5 to St Kilda. The mighty Pies have won 3-1/2 to the Tigers 1-1/2 in the last 5 outings.

Ian Hovey managed 'nearest the pin' this week with 79 points, and wins the $10.

For round 7, Exo tipped 8 winners, Ann S got 7, and a heap got 6.

After 7 rounds the leaderboard has changed again:

44 points - Poppy Daddy & Tiger have been joined by Ann S & Ross C.

43 points - Ricky James.

42 points - Marg Wade & FloreatPica35.

Sunliner & Lucky Phil are last on 35, and need to get a move on. Its no coincidence they both tip Essendon each week.
