PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

President’s Message

Oh what a night it was, as we held the 53rd Changeover of the Werribee Rotary Club.

I would like to pay tribute to our outgoing President Michael Redding for his leadership in steering our club through what was a very difficult year with the Covid Pandemic. His results were outstanding.

I would also like to congratulate Elizabeth Ross and Barbara Purdy on receiving a Paul Harris Fellow award for their outstanding contribution to the Werribee Rotary Club and our community.

During my year as President I would like to focus on :

  • The Homelessness in the Wyndham Community.
  • Form a Family Violence partnership with Victoria Police, this might be that our Rotary Club provide Xmas presents to families dealing with Family Violence or conduct a Xmas BBQ.
  • Youth Mental Health ( Beyond Blue Cup) is another area that I would like to focus on.
  • I would like to explore the possibility of a partnership with the Werribee Open Range Zoo.
  • Provide support to the Karen, Sudanese communities.
  • Continue our support to our Interact Club with their projects.

My other goal is to increase our membership. We need to be more proactive with the way we promote our club. It is everybody’s responsibility to try and encourage new members to our club.

The Rotary theme for this year is “Serve To Change Lives” Through our service to Rotary we definitely change lives.

Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you next Tuesday.

Graham

THIS WEEK AT ROTARY - CHANGEOVER NIGHT 06.07.2021

After a couple of cancellations, as a result of the "circuit breaker lockdown", we finally got our Changeover Night away.

MC Ian Hovey organised  the content of the night, with a number of messages & video's. Unfortunately due to Covid and the a key member who has gone missing, "The Barking Dogs" were unable to perform, and we had to make do with a video.

Ian also introduced us to the wonderful music of Hugo Stresser & Max Gregar. If you were wondering who Hugo & Max were, you wern't alone, as nobody had heard of them. Bring a few dollars next week Ian, as the SAA will be happy to relieve you of your money.

PDG Ian Knight said grace, and PDG Julie Mason proposed a toast to Rotary.

President Michael Redding presented two of the partners of Rotarians with Paul Harris Fellow's. Elizabeth Ross & Barbara Purdy were recognised for their contribution to Werribee Rotary. Congratulations to Liz & Barb - worthy recipients.

President Michael Redding gave his final address as President. A few months from commencement of his year, Melbourne was plunged into lockdown, causing the cancellation of the changeover night, and and introduction to Zoom. The year was unpredictable and a huge challenge. The club held 46 meetings, and 24 were on Zoom.

Michael said the highlights of his year was:
  • Having project leaders instead of directors
  • The celebration of the Centenary of Rotary in Aust.
  • The Golf Day that raised $24,000 for Very Special Kids
  • The Inductions of Vas & Jess, and honorary members Geoff Smith & Lou Dowling

President Michael proceeded with the induction of Graham Roper as 2021/22 President.

Graham outlined some goals for his year, and introduced the Board for 2021/22.
  • President - Graham Roper
  • Vice President - Kim Deneys
  • Secretary - Ross Smith
  • Treasurer - Wendy Roper
  • Director - Ian Hovey
  • Director - Vas Samaltanos
  • Director - Kathryn Williams
  • Foundation - Colin Muir
  • Membership - Peter Ross
  • Past President - Michael Redding
  • President Elect - Colin Muir

Tip of the week to the ladies (from a man)
If your clothes are not smelling as fresh as usual, it could be your washing machine. The way to get rid of the mouldy smell coming from your dishwasher, is to put two dishwasher pods in your washing machine, and run a full wash cycle without clothes.
