This Week at Rotary

Our guest speaker this week was past DG Julie Mason, who updated the club on the Zone 8 Regionalisation Project. Zone 8 comprises of all the clubs and districts in Australia, New Zealand & the Pacific Islands in the South West Pacific.

The leaders of Zone 8 met a year or so ago, to address the challenges facing Rotary in our region, and approached Rotary International to run a trial project, to address the issues, and implement an improved structure to take Rotary forward into the future. Rotary International approved the trial, and established a Zone 8 Project Team.

The team will look at leadership, public image, communication, membership, and fundraising. The team will focus on five key objectives.

  1. Improved support to clubs to engage members, volunteers and communities.
  2. Create new attractive leadership roles and develop opportunities.
  3. Build a stronger unified Rotary Brand.
  4. Encourage partnerships.
  5. Improve efficiencies and reduce duplication.
The timetable and steps in the process are:
  1. Stage One - Approval to develop the pilot program - 01.01.2022 to 30.09.2022
  2. Stage Two - Development of the program - 01.01.2022 to 30.06.2023
  3. Stage Three - Partial Regionalisation - 01.07.2023 to 30.06.2024
  4. Stage Four - Regionalisation (with Districts remaining) - 01.07.2024 to 30.09.2026
  5. Stage Five - Evaluation & Assessment - 01.01.2024 to 31.12.2026
Prior to 30.09.2022 all clubs in Zone 8 will participate in a vote to approve the commencement of the trial. A majority of clubs and districts will be required for the trial to proceed.

The trial/project is a wonderful opportunity for Zone 8 to lead the rest of the world in moving Rotary forward with a model that will define Rotary for the future.

All clubs will consulted and involved in the process. During the five years of the trial, the existing Districts will remain and operate in parallel with the trial project. At the completion of the trial, clubs and district will vote to adopt the new structure, or to revert back to existing Districts.

There is a lot more information on the trial/project, on the website link below.

Footy Tipping - after 21 Rounds

Well with two rounds to go, overhaul leader Graham Roper's lead has only been reduced from four to three. Unless he he makes some horrendous choices they are not going to catch him. He only tipped four winners, but his nearest chasers didn't do any better.

This week Floreat Pica got 7, and a heap of others got 6. Chris Conley, Peter Ross, Liz Ross, Rick, Exo, Egg Man & Alan Lee. Unfortunately none of these are challenging the leader.

Ross Conley won the $10 for closest margin.

After 21 rounds, Graham still leads with 131, followed by Ross C & Floreat 128, and Hoveycat  & Chris Conley on 125.

Peter Ross has 124, Ann S, Liz R & Rick have 123. Some sharp tipping can still knock Hoveycat & Chris C out of third place.

OTHER BUSINESS

Covid Protocols from the Coronavirus Website

Influenza & Covid are both contagious respiratory illnesses. They both have similar symptoms, and you cannot tell the difference between the two by looking at the symptoms alone.

For the safety of all Rotary members, if you or a family member are sick or unwell, or have been in contact with somebody who has Covid, please follow extreme caution, and stay away from Rotary until your illness passes, or you have met Covid isolation protocols.

Covid is incredibly contagious, so lets err on the side of caution.
