Together Again! - Our Christmas Breakup on Dec 15th
The BAD news: For all this Rotary year we have been isolated from each other due to the pandemic, only able to catch up as a Club during our weekly Zoom meetings!
The GOOD news: We will be having our traditional CHRISTMAS BREAKUP on Tues Dec 15th at the Wyndham Cache in K Road, Werribee South. The cost is $60.
I have sent an email to every member with all the details.
Santa will be joining us!
You are encouraged to bring a Kris Kringle present (under $20) for Santa to hand out during the evening. (Something baked, made or grown?) If gift is specifically for male or female, then attach a card.
Have you booked in with Brian Ahmed yet?
It is essential that Brian knows how many are coming, due to Covid-19 requirements for inside dining and for catering.

This Week on Zoom
Guest - Anna Thompson.
This week on Zoom we had an inspirational presentation from our newest member Vas Samaltanos.
Vas is an IT Consultant who has been working from home for most of this year.
Vas grew up in Greece where chain smoking and eating were accepted parts of Greek culture. In 2013 Vas saw his self esteem running out of control. Weighing 156kg, and having just completed the Point Cook "Scorpion Burger Eating Challenge" Vas was in trouble.
He was obese, with a BMI of 45.8. He was a heavy smoker, and his fitness was poor. He felt that he was an embarrassment to his twin children.
The turning point was his decision to join the Hands Across the Water organisation. The organisation promotes, that personal change is a marathon, not a sprint.
He quit smoking completely, addressed his poor diet, and commenced walking & cycling. He took on the 10,000 Step Challenge, and joined into community bike rides.
He has maintained his passion for cycling, and now weighs a healthy 94 kg.
Birthdays & Anniversaries
One major birthday this week, with Ian Hovey celebrating his 70th on 02 December 2020. Congratulations Hoves.
On 1st December, Steve Evans celebrates 26 years in the club, and Tony Todaro 41 years.
Alphabet Racing - after meetings 18

After gaining a maximum of 6 points in the first race of the day, the frivolous and fickle Filthy Phil frittered away any chance of further fortune by failing to feature in the first 3 placings after that. Despite many opportunities, it appeared he just fell apart with the weight of expectation. Nevertheless, as expected, he takes the lead and becomes the first to reach the magical figure of 50 points. But he had the chance to put the race beyond doubt and may live to regret that. It has opened the door for some of his nearest pursuers who are now licking their lips with anticipation of a good road ahead.

The best performance of the day came from left field. The comeback kid, Killer Conley, with the letter 'O', had 3 winners on the day and gained a total of 9 points for his courageous efforts. He wins $15 and, if he can keep it going, it puts him in with a slim sniff of victory.

Sticky Micki is now starting to hit her straps and, with good letters ahead, she is reaching for the stars. She passed a bunch of horses in her 8-point haul and has now quickly slipped into fourth spot, one length behind Jumbo Jimbo with the stumbling Mad Dog Muir a further length ahead in second place.

It was pleasing to see The Egg Man scramble his way out of last place with 5 precious points. The question will be whether he can maintain this burst of speed or whether it was just a flash in the pan.

First – Filthy Phil - 51 points
Equal Second – Mad Dog Muir - 48 points
Third – Jumbo Jimbo - 47 points
Werribee Rotary Golf Day

As a result of the improved Covid outcomes, we have taken the decision to proceed with the organisation of our Annual Golf Day.

To 'buy us as much time as possible' we have put the date back to Friday 26th March.

This year we are going to run the event as a morning competition, with a light breakfast and lunch.

We will soon be looking for sponsors & golfers.

We are going to need plenty of volunteers on the day, so put the date in your diary now.

The registration form has been completed, and we expect invitations to go out prior to Christmas.

Next Week - 08.12.2020 at 6.45pm
Our newest member Connie Faranda -  Vice Principal of Wyndham Secondary College, talking about the teaching challenges of Covid.

First Half Memberships
Seven members have still not paid their first half membership dues.  This money is needed, to pay our RI dues, and our D9800 dues.
Please make your payment ASAP.
Guest Speakers
Everyone knows someone with an interesting story to tell. Pass them onto Ian Hovey so we can follow them up to speak to us on Zoom at a later date.
WERN has been operating from leased premises in Derrimut, and is in advanced negotiations with City of Melton for a purpose built facility, that will become available in late 2021.
Unfortunately the building we currently occupy has been sold, and we have been given a notice to vacate by 31.12.2020.  This means we potentially have to move twice in 12 months.
WERN has just signed a lease for 12 months on a new building in Ravenhall, and we are in planning for the move to take place in December 2020.
WERN will cease servicing clients on Thursday 3rd December, to allow all resources to go into the factory move.
WERN is looking to Rotary Clubs to provide volunteers for one or two days, to pack products into boxes and onto pallets, ready for the removalist
Werribee Rotary has put it's hand up on Monday 14th December. If you are able to devote time on the day -  2-3 hrs, 1/2 day, or a full day, can you let Ross S or Rob F know ASAP. Ladies are welcome, as there is plenty of work packing light kitchen items.
Bunnings BBQ
We have been allocated a date at Hoppers Crossing on Sunday 20.12.2020.
Bunnings now require 5 people for each shift.
Tony Todaro & Phil Purdy will be organising the roster, food etc.
We have spoken to ISCW, and at this stage we are planning for Bingo to re-commence on Monday 11.01.2021. More details will follow.
