PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Presidents Message:

After Mr Andrews announcements yesterday it looks like we will be holding our meetings on zoom until November 9. As of this date, 150 fully vaccinated people will be able to dine indoors. I am hopeful that we can return to face to face meetings on Tuesday 9th November but this will all depend on advice from the ISCW.

As you all know, I do volunteer work with an organization called YRIPP (Youth Referral Independent Person Program). Last Wednesday the 15th September I attended a western suburbs Police Station and sat in on an interview with a young offender. On Thursday afternoon I received a phone call from one of the Sergeants at this Police Station advising me that the young offender had tested positive for Covid 19. I was advised to get a test straight away which I did, and this test result was negative. I have been advised by the DHS to isolate for 14 days and get re tested on day 13. If this result is negative I will be released from isolation at 11.59pm on Thursday 30th September. Unfortunately Wendy and my son Chris also have to isolate at home for the 14 days as well.

Hat Day 10th October

                                       Celebrate Hat Day on
                                    World Mental Health Day!

The District Conference for DG Dale Hoy’s year will be held from 30th April / 1st May 2022. It is planned that this will be an in – person District Conference in Regional Victoria but this will depend on restrictions at the time.

Please continue to keep in touch with members who do not attend our zoom meetings to make sure they are alright. It is also very important to check in on family members as well.

Next week’s guest speaker will be: Peter Cransberg (former AFL Footballer with Essendon).

I will close with a thought for the week: With what all humans are dealing with in our lives, thoughts and our feelings. We are all fragile, whether we admit it or not. Be a nice human and be there for another human.

Have a great week and above all stay safe.

Graham

THIS WEEK AT ROTARY - 21.09.2021

This weeks guest speaker on Zoom was Deborah Gorsuch, the Team Leader Housing & Homelessness, at Uniting Care Werribee.

Uniting Care Werribee aim to assist people into long term housing.
Werribee has a shortage of housing, particularly accommodation for single people. The problems in Werribee are significant, with hundreds of people in rooms, rooming houses, or sleeping rough. A large proportion of people accessing services, are victims of family violence.

Accommodation is expensive, and people will have to pay 55% or more of their unemployment benefit or Centrelink allowance, for basic accommodation.

The population of Wyndham has just passed $300,000. There are about 14-15 babies born every day. 58% of the population is below 35. The attraction of Wyndham is cheap housing.

Tip of the week
Set good songs as the custom ringtones on your phone, for people you don't like. This way when they call you, you can enjoy the song, but not answer their call.
