PRESIDENTS REPORT
 
My thanks to all the members, partners and friends who came along to Victoria University on Tuesday evening to see and hear about the great medical research work being undertaken by Professor Vasso Apostolopoulos and her team. I think everyone was impressed by the extent of their research to deliver vaccines and drugs to contain or cure such a wide range of different diseases.
 
It was also good to share the experience with members and partners from the Rotary Club of Wyndham. From memory, it’s the first combined club vocational visit but, based on the way we enjoyed each other’s company, I hope it won’t be the last.
 
Our visit to VU justifies our decision to support them by donating the proceeds of our 2023 charity golf day. Speaking of which, the invitations have just gone out for the golf day which is on Friday 10th March. Ross Conley has taken over the reins again and, with Ross in charge, you know it will be a success. He is hoping that you can support him by either registering to play or sponsoring or volunteering or offering a nice raffle prize. It would be great to have everyone’s involvement in one way or another. It makes things so much easier if there are more of us helping out. And we know the money raised will be going to a very important cause.
 
As you know, we were due to have our Christmas dinner at the Werribee Football Club next week but this won’t be happening due to a lack of numbers. Undaunted by this, we have decided to reschedule and relocate the function. We will now be going to the Bridge Hotel on Tuesday 20th December. Thanks to everyone who has responded positively to this minor setback. I reckon it will still be a very pleasant night. If you haven’t already advised me of your intentions, please do so as soon as possible.
 
My sincere thanks go out to Mary Macaulay, Roland Wade and Jim Randall for joining me at the Christmas at the Lakes event last Saturday for car parking duties. We spent three gruelling hours in the hot afternoon sun. We ended up feeling very dry, dusty and drained but we survived the ordeal and were glad to help out one of our fellow Rotary clubs. Congratulations must also go to Anne Randall for her monumental effort in organising such a huge and successful community event.
 
Genny Knight is unwell at the moment. She has been confined to bed but Ian says, with his “expert nursing skills”, she will be back to full health soon. Best wishes from everyone Genny.
 
When we return from our Christmas break, our first meeting back will be a casual one at Tino and Robyn Ballan’s house on Tuesday 17th January. Tino and Robyn are very gracious hosts and I thank them for agreeing to continue this New Year tradition.

Alphabet Racing   

Thanks very much for being involved in the great race this year. Most of you had your moment in the sun but no-one could match it with the runaway winner, Randall's Candles. She was a class above the rest.

Not everyone was lucky enough to pick up a prize but that's the luck of the letters.

DISTRICT GOVERNOR 2025/2026

District 9800 are calling for nominations to join the committee to choose the District Governor for 2025/2026.

The committee will interview the candidates and select a successful candidate.

To be eligible to join the committee

  • You must be a Past President of a D9800 club
  • Yo can't be a previous District Governor
  • You must not have been part of last years nominating committee.
If you are interested in joining the committee, let Secretary Ross know ASAP. Nominations close on 31.12.2022.
 

UNITING CHURCH WERRIBEE

President Ian advised members that the Board had approved a donation of $5,000 to Werribee Uniting Church, to purchase food packages for 150 families in Werribee who are is significant financial hardship.

International Convention

The Rotary International World Convention, will be held in Melbourne in May 2023. It is being organised by a committee formed from the Aust Rotary Districts.

The committee is also asking for interested Rotarians to register for the opportunity to home host several overseas guests for dinner during the convention. There is also an option for Rotary clubs to host a larger group of guests.
