Presidents Message

Our Pres is away on a sabbatical, as he contemplates a future life as a farmer, so we haven't got a report this week.

He sent us a photo and said life on the farm is pretty good. Eggs for breakfast every morning.

THIS WEEK AT ROTARY

Report from President Elect Kim.
  • Last week's Rotary in Action was considered a success, and it is likely to continue again next year. Thanks to Jess who did a video for the night, speaking on what she gets out of Rotary.
  • The Interact Club is still going strong. Their projects for this term are making stress balls, and making a start on the Community Garden. Brian Ahmed has arranged for 7 vegetable crates from Werribee South farmers, which will house the gardens. Jim Randall will also provide soil. Well don Brian & Jim.
  • Women's Health - planning is underway to hold the event at McKillop mid-year.
  • Beyond Blue Cup - both teams want to play again, and we are looking for a date in June/July.
  • Bingo - Graham showed the players a few slides about Shelter Box's, and the audience was fully supportive of putting funds towards Shelter Box's for Turkey.

Guest Speaker
Our guest speaker was Tonya Toi, current president of the Pasifika Community of Australia. The organisation is a voice for the melanesian community in Melbourne, and assists individuals & groups settling in Melbourne.

Tonya works closely with Vicpol, and is available to assist individuals who have got into difficulty, or who have to attend court.

The group undertake a lot of community projects including the Point Cook Homestead, and Werribee Station Youth Project.

In conjunction with the City of Wyndham, the group has established a 2.5 acre community garden at 79 Pemrose Promenade, Tarneit. The local melanesium community maintain & develop the garden. Most of the produce is given away to the melanesian community, but selling some produce is a plan for the future.
